History of Titles




1897
-Thomas Edison used text board to show relevant information- company name and copyright
-Most looked similar so film makers displayed names first.




Later the use of handwritten text boards were introduced and frames were used.
After development of sound, opening titles started to use it.
Actors then started to appear before the film started.





More people stayed at home after the invention of TV.
Openings became small films to capture the audience's attention.

Computer technology advancements allowed digitally created titles e.g. Superman
-Titles became more visual



Exploration into typography and space.



Some incorporate titles into setting relevant to the film.
